New World-Class Aircraft Paint Facility For PZL Mielec

08 April 2021

Mielec, Poland, April 8, 2021 – PZL Mielec, a Lockheed Martin company, has launched a new state-of-the-art, eco-friendly aircraft paint facility. A PLN13.5m investment has expanded and transformed a 2,200m2 hall to become one of the best facilities of its kind in Poland, suitable for painting a broad range of aircraft including the M28 and Black Hawk built in Mielec, enabling work to be carried out in accordance with world quality standards for the VIP painting class.

The new plant places great emphasis on safety and the environment and provides employees with the highest levels of protection. It features state of the art ventilation and filtration, sprinkler, hazard detection systems and automation to guarantee the highest level of operational safety.

A chemical resistant floor, energy-saving LED lighting, a number of auxiliary installations including new pumps and chemical agent warehouses well as a new air flow system that adjusts the size of the air stream to the size of painted elements help minimize the facility’s environmental footprint.

The new air flow system is a key component that uses positive-displacement nozzles with an adjustable air stream. This has cut usage of electricity and gas by reducing the volume of air needed to carry out the processes, by more than 60%.

“We are committed to tackling environmental challenges head on, promoting innovation and responsible busjness growth while contributing to a more sustainable future for our employees and local community” says Janusz Zakręcki, president and general manager PZL Mielec.

“The innovative technologies used in this new facility guarantee low operating costs, minimize the impact on the environment and ensure the quality of the processes meets the highest global standards.”

Modernization of the paint shop follows close behind the launch of a modern composite machining facility last year. Since the company's privatization in 2007, more than USD 150M has been invested in updating manufacturing and other facilities at PZL Mielec.

Lockheed Martin has been a trusted partner for Poland’s national defense, industry and economy for more than 20 years. In the past 10 years the company has invested US$1.8 billion in Poland. Today, its operations in country sustain 6,700 high-value Polish jobs, of which 1,700 are at  PZL Mielec, the company’s biggest manufacturing facility outside the U.S.
