Mielec, April 22, 2023 – Young code breakers from Tarnów and Dębica emerged victorious from CodeQuest 2023, an annual computer programming competition involving schools in Australia, Singapore, Poland, the UK and United States, sponsored by global technology leader Lockheed Martin.

The Polish event, hosted by PZL Mielec, Lockheed Martin’s largest manufacturing facility outside the U.S. attracted around 100 competitors from 12 regional schools - Dąbrowa Tarnowska, Tarnów, Dębica, Mielec, Kolbuszowa, Rzeszów and Leżajsk. The competition was held in two categories - advanced, in which 14 teams competed, and beginner, in which 18 temas competed.

During the 2 ½ hour competition, teams worked together using Java, Python, C#, and/or C+ programming to solve a set of problems created by Lockheed Martin software engineers.

"Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) are a cornerstone for industrial and technological development and that’s why we commit to events like CodeQuest, to help inspire and excite the next generation of engineers and scientists that will keep our nation safe,”  said Robert Orzyłowski, Lockheed Martin director Poland, Central and East Europe.

“We directly employ 1,500 people and sustain more than 5,000 other jobs our Polish supply chain. Like most companies in Poland’s aerospace sector we are in constant need of fresh talents, which are critical for further development and advancement of our country’s industrial base” added Janusz Zakręcki, PZL Mielec president and general director.

Lockheed Martin has been a trusted partner for Poland’s national defense, industry, and economy for more than 20 years. In the past 10 years alone it has invested nearly PLN 8 billion (USD 1.8 billion) in Poland.
