02 June 2022

MIELEC, 10 March, 2022 – In the face of the refugee and humanitarian crisis in which the Ukrainian population found itself, caused by Russia's unprovoked military aggression against this country, Polskie Zakłady Lotnicze in Mielec, will provide PLN 500k for the Polish Red Cross to support the organization campaign "To help Ukraine". At the same time, PZL Mielec undertook numerous aid initiatives in the local community in which they operate, joining in activities for the benefit of the victims of the armed conflict. The company offers its help both to refugees who came to Poland and to the civilian population who remained in Ukraine.

“The ongoing war in Ukraine carries many victims, thousands of wounded not only among the fighting soldiers, but also among the civilians. Many Ukrainian cities and towns are plunging into a humanitarian disaster. That is why we decided to join the Polish Red Cross campaign "To help Ukraine" and allocate PLN 500k to help Ukrainian citizens injured as a result of the armed conflict." said Janusz Zakręcki, President , General Director of PZL Mielec.

Additionally PZL has already financed the purchase of basic necessities for a hospital in Nowojawolisk in Ukraine. In coordination with the Mielec town government and with an ione of the refugee women, dressings and medical supplies needed for the injured were delivered to the hospital. On the other hand, in agreement with the municipal Information and Humanitarian Aid Center in Mielec, a collection of necessary first need things, food and clothing for the residents of Kiev who remained in the city under military operations was organized among the employees.

These are not the only initiatives of the company. PZL Mielec also declared support directly for Ukrainian citizens settling to Mielec. Among other things, contact was made with the local hostel in Mielec, where over a hundred people found shelter - mainly women and children. As part of ad hoc purchases, the PZL Mielec funds provided refugees with bedding, quilts, pillows, free medical assistance, medicines and even glasses for one of the refugees who lost hers during the escape.

“We cannot remain indifferent to the harm to children, women and the elderly - the inhabitants of Ukraine who, saving their lives, decided to leave their homeland covered with war. Many refugees reach Mielec, having no relatives here, and while escaping, they were unable to take any belongings with them." said Janusz Zakrecki.

At the same time, the company decided to launch special subsidies for employees who decide to admit refugees to their homes. The aim of this action is to compensate the daily increased costs of living, and at the same time to support employees who have opened their hearts and homes to people in need.

The initiatives implemented so far were a response to the need for urgent assistance, but PZL Mielec declares the continuation of support in the coming weeks and months so that the assistance is long-term and targeted at the most needy.
